Open Dig Day Recap: RodRadar and CHCNAV Innovation in Action
In December 2025, we hosted an open dig day at CT Assessments’ training centre, showcasing RodRadar, CHCNAV and ViLi technology with customers and industry partners from across the North.
On 7 December 2025, we hosted an Open Dig Day at the CT Assessments Training Centre in Tingley, bringing together customers, contractors and suppliers to see the latest machine control and underground detection technology working live on site.
It was a brilliant day for the team at Plantec — practical demos, strong conversations and genuine excitement about what these systems can deliver in real-world construction environments.
Thank you to everyone involved
A big thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success, including teams from:
- Wates Group
- Howard Civil Engineering
- Wordsworth Excavations
- Northern Gas Networks
We’re especially grateful to CT Assessments & Training for hosting us, and to HH Construction Groundworks Contractors Ltd for supplying the excavator used in the live demonstrations.
The event was delivered in partnership with Machinetech, whose support continues to play an important role in introducing innovative technology to the UK construction sector.
Thank you as well to Rototilt Limited, Response Plant Services, and Groundforce for joining us and showcasing your products.
What stood out on the day
Across the demos and discussions, three technologies generated particularly strong feedback:
- RodRadar Live Dig Radar® (LDR) was repeatedly described as a major step forward for excavation safety.
- CHCNAV TX73 impressed visitors with its speed, clean interface and ease of use.
- ViLi i100 rover received great feedback for stable performance in challenging GNSS conditions and fast point-cloud output.
For us, that feedback reinforced a clear message: this isn’t “future tech” — it’s proven, available now, and ready to deploy on UK sites.
Helping teams move toward zero-strike excavation
At Plantec, we’re focused on helping contractors adopt practical technology that improves safety, productivity and confidence on site.
Open Dig Day gave attendees a chance to test these systems first-hand and explore how they can support a move toward safer, lower-risk excavation workflows.
